My savings sit in a regular account
Where to move your savings so they actually grow.
A typical EU current account pays 0% interest. A handful of apps pay 3-4% on cash with same-day access. On €10,000 sitting idle for a year, that's the difference between €0 and €400 you didn't have to work for.

Top picks for you
Each pick shows what you get, what you'd save, and the catch — so you can decide without reading the small print.
1. · BEST EUR RATE WITH INSTANT ACCESS
Trade Republic Cash Account
What it gives you
- 4.00% per year on cash (variable, tracks ECB rate)
- Instant access — withdraw any time, no notice period
- €100k deposit guarantee (held at Deutsche Bank as a partner)
- Same app gives you ETF investing if you want it later
The catch
Rate is variable — if the ECB cuts, your interest drops. The interest is paid into your Trade Republic balance, not your bank, so transferring it out is a SEPA round-trip.
2. · IF YOU ALREADY HAVE REVOLUT
Revolut Savings Vault (Metal plan)
What it gives you
- Up to 1.96% AER on EUR (Metal plan)
- Up to 3.64% AER on GBP (Metal plan)
- Instant access, no notice, no minimum
- Lives inside your existing Revolut app
The catch
The headline rate requires the Metal plan (€13.99/mo). The Standard plan rate is much lower, often under 1%. Run the math: Metal is worth it once your cash balance crosses about €8,500.
3. · MULTI-CURRENCY
Lightyear Cash Account
What it gives you
- Up to 3.75% on USD, 1.94% on EUR, variable
- Multi-currency in one account — handy if you earn USD
- FCA regulated; held in money-market funds, not as a bank deposit
The catch
This is a money-market fund, not a bank deposit. €85,000 FSCS doesn't apply to the MMF itself — protection is via investor compensation (up to €20,000). MMFs are very low-risk but they're not the same as a bank guarantee.
Why these
Rates pulled from the providers' own sites on May 25, 2026. Trade Republic leads on EUR with the simplest product (cash, instant access, real deposit guarantee). Revolut's Metal-tier rate is competitive once you're already on the plan. Lightyear is the right pick if you hold multiple currencies and don't want a separate broker for each one. None of these are fixed deposits — rates can change as the ECB moves.
